Neglected Spaces

Shortly after Christmas I came down with the flu.  I had not had the flu for about 14 years and completely forgot how horrible it really is.  It took me out of commission for quite a few days, and even when you start to feel better it leaves you feeling so weak.  It had taken some time to completely recuperate and start back with a schooling schedule.  Things are returning back to normal pretty much and I have missed blogging.  There were posts I want to complete for the New Year but they were completely forgotten about.  My only goal was to not feel so weak.
This post is about some slightly neglected areas of our home that finally received a dose of tlc.
The first is in our bedroom.  I do have further plans for this room but that will be in a future post.
For now, I replaced my awful, on sale Target nightstand with a sweet little find.
Well hubby and I were on a date at this little village not far from us we found this little treasure.
I need to get some baskets for the shelf to better organize it.  It is on the to do list.

We picked it right up.  I love the shape and finish on this piece.  The distressing is perfect and the price was almost too fabulous to believe.

I love the shape of the legs.  The shelf is already full of books on my must read list.

This area at the top of our steps was the second neglected spot.  It is the second floor landing of our home.  Not sure what happened to the picture.  The armoire does not have that color distortion in real life.

There was only one lonely chair there and I knew it needed something else.

My mom found and picked up this sweet little table at Home Goods.  I love it and how much better this space looks now.
Photobucket
I am much happier with this space.

I need to add some art work to the bare walls and then it will be perfect.  The yellow is hubby's color choice.  I would have loved something a little more neutral but he likes it.  The picture below is the true color.  Up top is a bit too bright.  Not sure what happened with these pictures.

Next post will be my 2013 goals for our home.  Better late than never.

I will be linking up to these great parties.

Last Minute Projects & a ChristmasTour

It's been busy, busy here and no matter how often I have wanted to post I've always run out of time.  But I am finally here with a few last minute touches and projects.

I started my first project with a wooden stocking shape my hubby had cut out.
Photobucket
I have a book of vintage sheet music that is falling apart.
Photobucket
So I removed some pages and Mod Podged them onto the stocking.

Then I embellished it with some lace, chip board letters, and a book page rosette.
Photobucket
I also embellished some wooden snowflakes to add to packages for hubby's coworkers.

Oh Christmas Tree~Oh Christmas Tree~

I  have to say I love our tree.  We have always had artificial trees because hubby prefers them and we wouldn't know where to begin with a real tree.  A few years back we had a somewhat small, disproportionate Christmas tree that I really did not like.  It was fairly new but when we purchased it it looked better in the store.

We walked into Walmart one day and I saw a tree that made my heart leap.  I fell in love with it at once and just knew I wanted one like it.  I asked hubby if we could buy that tree.  His response, "Why?  Our tree is perfectly fine."
How could I make him understand that our tree was a sad tree and this one was a happy tree.  I told him I loved that tree.  His response, "Good, remember that when we buy our next one."  but I wanted it now.  I loved it.  It was so full and looked like a real tree.  Ours screamed fake.  (Now mind you I am always so frugal so I wasn't at all surprised when he wasn't giving in.  He wasn't being heartless, he knew our goal was to pay down debt because I would be quitting my job to homeschool.)

For some reason I couldn't get that tree out of my mind.  While we were shopping I posed another question.  The tree's original price was a little over $100 and I asked him if I could buy it on clearance after Christmas.  He says, "For how much?"

Me~"$50"

Him~"No"

Me~"Ok, $20"

Him~"Sure, if you find that tree on clearance for $20 you can have it."

I tried to put it out of my mind but it was hard.  The day after Christmas I walked into Walmart and it was marked 50% off.  It was too soon.  About two weeks after Christmas we went again and I thought they would be all out by then.  I was a little sad because I really wanted it but I had been so busy with work I didn't have a chance to get there sooner.  We walked into the garden/seasonal section and the first thing we saw was our tree with a big yellow clearance sign marked $20.  My heart jumped.  He really couldn't believe it.  That tree came home with us that day.

Here it is.  It looks a bit bigger in our small room but I do love it.  Hubby likes to say I didn't buy a tree I bought the forest.  I think he over exaggerates. LOL~The angel also came home with us that day.  It was on clearance for about $2.  I love her, too.

And when you can't have a real tree you can always burn this in the room and it smells just like a real tree.

The Nester is hosting the Christmas Tour of Homes 2009.  The link list is almost endless there and I may need to sit here until Christmas to visit all the sites but I thought it would be fun to join in.

Christmas Tags

Had some fun making Christmas tags for a swap.  I loved working with all the different embellishments and glitter an putting it all together.  I could spend a whole day just creating these beauties!!   I hope my swap partners enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them.

These are the ones I made to mail out to my partners.  (If you click on the picture you can see them better.)

Here are the great tags I received.  I love all the special little touches.  So many thought goes into creating these little treasures.
